School of Dating · Week 6 · Session 12

Facing Rejection.

It will prick you. It doesn’t get to tear you down.

The Foundation

“Rejection can try to have its way with us — but that doesn’t mean we can’t have our way with rejection.

Kait · Thank You For Rejecting Me

Nobody on earth is immune. But if you EXPECT it and carry tools, the sting stops being a demolition.

The Foundation

What rejection doesn’t get to do.

It doesn’t get to…It can…
Determine your valueBuild strength & perseverance
Imply you’ve failedBe a stepping stone to something new
Make you quit datingClarify your purpose and calling
Destroy your lifeTurn you toward God — deeper, secure love
Where It Hits

The lies that show up after.

“I’m not enough.” · “I’m not loved.”
“What’s wrong with me?” · “Maybe I deserved it.”
“Stable love doesn’t exist… for me.”

These don’t sprout from nowhere — rejection points straight at your pain message from Phase 1. That’s why it hits so specific.

Where It Hits

Heartbreak registers as physical pain.

Rutgers researchers found that thoughts of the person who broke your heart trigger the same sensation in the brain as physical pain. You’re not being dramatic — it actually hurts. Which is why walking in without tools is how the lies eat you alive.

The Choice

When rejected, you’ll do one of three things.

Live in itStay wounded, make yourself small, let the lies feed.
Numb itInner-child coping — work, food, people-pleasing, distance, drinking.
Fight itTake your power back — combat the lies with truth.
The Tool

4 steps against the lie.

1 · NameSay exactly which lie is talking.
2 · ConfessOut loud — it breaks the power of shame.
3 · Reject“I reject this lie and send it to the feet of Jesus.”
4 · ReplaceWhat truth goes in its place? A verse? Your Godfidence list?
The Tool · Endurance

21 days. Then 63.

Dr. Caroline Leaf: it takes ~21 days to build a new long-term memory and ~63 to make it a lasting habit. You cannot Amazon-Prime your way out of heartbreak. It takes time, consistency, endurance — and you have a sacred power built for exactly this battle.

The Anchor

“Suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope — and hope does not disappoint us.”

Romans 5:3–5
For The Single Person Dating

Three truths.

Truth 1

Rejection could be your protection.

If it isn’t working out, there’s a reason — you just can’t see it from here. God is the grand architect who sees the why and provides the new way forward. You won’t get all the reasons. You don’t need them.

Truth 2

It’s (likely) not about you.

Stop personalizing it. They may be busy. Emotionally unavailable. Or just not into you — and that’s okay. You don’t need them to be.

When you know God is abundant, you stop trying to prove and convince — because you expect good things are coming your way.

Truth 3

Detach from the outcome.

You are still worthy and valuable even if this doesn’t work out. There is hope for you even if this doesn’t work out. That’s Godfidence — security that doesn’t ride on their answer.

Ghosting

What ghosting is — and isn’t.

Not ghostingAn app convo that fizzles, or the person from the party who never followed up.They don’t really know you yet — no mental attachment, no ghost.
GhostingThey’ve met you or made plans with you — then drop off the planet.
Ghosting

Ghosting is about them.

They’re avoiding an uncomfortable conversation — serving themselves, not sparing you.
They may genuinely struggle to communicate — which is not someone you want anyway.
Or you weren’t a priority — painful, but useful information.

A ghost doesn’t operate from “leave them better than you found them.” You do.

When You’re The One Saying No

Before you reject someone.

TimeIf you’ve gone out, give it 2–3 dates before you call it.
Check the whyIs this really a no — or is it your “type” talking, masking old pain?
Preferences · Recap

A preference is not a dealbreaker.

Preferences dictated by wounds or lack lead straight to disappointment.
Honest question: has your type actually worked out for you?
Real “type” is character, spirit, and soul — no human completes you.

Keller’s observation: no generation in history has had more idealized partner expectations than ours.

Preferences

Rethink your no.

Your “no” isn’t only when someone asks you out. You silently reject people all day — on the app, at church, at the event — for not being your type. What qualifies them to be your type? What’s the QUALITY of your qualifications — height? ethnicity? weight?

Review your core values: did this person embody something you underestimated?

When You’re The One Saying No

Reject them kindly.

1 · ClearHonest and loving: “I’m not romantically interested in pursuing this further.” Momentary hurt now, gratitude later.
2 · MisunderstoodYou can’t control how they receive it. If they take it poorly, that’s not on you.
3 · Not friendsYou can offer friendship — but honor it if they can’t.
4 · ReflectiveWhat does this no teach you about you?

Change the world of dating: leave every person better than you found them.
